Our Portland full-service movers at Gentle John’s Moving & Storage understand that busy work and family schedules can get in the way of preparing for your move. Here are their top last-minute packing tips.
Get Up Early & Get Organized
Waking up in the early morning is a great first step when it comes to preparing for a move at the last-minute. Spend your whole day going through your packing checklist. The earlier you start, the less you’ll have to do on the day your movers arrive. But before you start taking out packing boxes, take a moment to go through each of your rooms with a notebook in hand. As you go room to room, take note of which of your belongings you will “Pack,” “Donate” and “Discard.” This way, you’ll have a better idea of what you need to pack.
Pack Room by Room
To save time and stay as organized as possible, pack one room at a time. Start packing up larger rooms first, communal spaces like the kitchen and living room. That’s usually where the heavier stuff and larger items are. Afterwards, move on to the smaller rooms like bedrooms and bathrooms. There will be less stuff to pack which will help you keep your stress levels low as packing day ends.
