List of Orange County’s Best Beaches
With over 40 miles of breathtaking coastline, Orange County is home to some of Southern California’s best beaches. Some of the state’s most famous beaches – Newport Beach and Laguna Beach – are also in this region. The diversity of Orange County’s white sand beaches is only matched by the diversity of its residents – each beach is distinct and gives visitors a unique coastal experience.
That world-renowned coastline is one the many reasons people move to Orange County. Gentle John’s Moving & Storage, our Orange County moving company, has helped many families move to The OC. Here are our picks for the top beaches on the Orange Coast!
Best Beach for Surfers
Technically split into two beaches – Huntington City Beach and Huntington State Beach – this stretch of coastline has the ideal conditions for beach volleyball, swimming, and surfing. Huntington Beach is one of the country’s best-known surf towns, in fact, it holds the official trademarked moniker “Surf City, USA.” Waves range from small to mid-level making them great for beginner surfers, while some areas offer some challenging waves for more experienced surfers. Want to enjoy the waves with your dog? Just go a bit north to Huntington Dog Beach.
Orange County’s Best Hidden Beach
Thousand Steps Beach
Want to avoid the crowds and have a unique experience? There an eclectic collection of hidden and secret beaches all along the Orange Coast. One of them is Thousand Steps Beach. This beach isn’t easy to find, but it’s totally worth it. Park for free along the idyllic Coast Highway then trek down more than 200 concrete steps to get to the sandy beach. At the bottom, there’s plenty of things to enjoy like volleyball courts, tide pools, and caves to explore. Swimming in the ocean is not always recommended due to the strong waves and undertow.
Family Friendly Beach
If you are planning a beach outing with your family, head to Aliso Beach. Unlike some of Orange County’s other beaches, this stretch of coastline isn’t filled with tourists. You and your kids can tan, swim, and maybe even partake is some skim boarding. Tide pools, fire rings, public restrooms, food stands, and a playground are additional family-friendly features. Just walk a few steps from the parking lot to start relaxing at this quiet beach.
